The Essay Question: Some people believe that teaching children at home is best for a child’s development while others think that it is important for children to go to school.
Discuss the advantages of both methods and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
The Essay: Whether home tutoring or attending a school, is ideal for the progress of children, has been a moot point. However, I believe the latter would help a child to face the challenges of the world, in a better manner.
Advocates in favor of schooling at home, believe that children are protected better at all times. Besides, their parents or guardians are there to constantly watch over, hence the chances of any danger happening are minimised. For instance, the late Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi was homeschooled and then intermittently attended school until matriculation.
On the other hand, children who go to school, however, are seen to learn things faster because of peer group influence. Apart from this, pupils are spurred on to compete in order to win laurels. Moreover, they get chances to mingle more with students of varied cultures, backgrounds, financial status and capabilities, making them more tolerant and adaptable to myriad situations in their life ahead. For instance, the renowned Doon School in Dehradun has students of all nationalities and states of India and is know to bring out outstanding pupils every year.
Additionally, they have ample opportunities to participate in activities and competitions, which encourage an active lifestyle. This enables them to develop holistically and perform their best, when it comes to facing the public or combating challenges. Additionally, there are various quizzes and talent hunt competitions such as the National Science Talent Search and Math Olympiad Test amongst others, that are conducted in schools to bring out excellence in children, boosting their confidence.
To conclude, I contend that albeit being well protected when tutored at home, children ought to be educated in schools, since it would hone talents, foster all round growth and make them more liberal.
