Writing Task 1

The bar graph shows information about people’s drinking habits in percentages, categorised by their age group in the US. The people who never drink and ex- drinkers are higher than drinkers.

It can be seen that about 62% of people in the age of 16- 24 years are never drinkers. The proportion fluctuated but decreased with increasing age and thelowest percentage of non-drinkers(around 44%) were found amongst the 65-74 year olds.

Moving forward, there were approximately 42 % people who quit drinking by the age of 65-74 years whereas only 5% of 35-44 years of age people became ex- drinkers.

On the other hand, the highest (35%) light drinkers were in the age group of 25-34 years, which showed a downward trend with growing age. Around 4% heavy drinkers were seen in the age group of the youngest (16- 24 years) and the oldest (65- 74 years). Besides, the highest (approximately 15 percent) of heavy drinkers has been found in the 45- 54 year olds.
