The Essay:

It is believed that same numbers of young boy and girl students ought to be admitted in all streams of study at institutes of tertiary education. I totally disagree with this line of thought since students apply to universities according to subjects that appeals to them. Besides, the latter prefer the most capable candidates in any area of study.

First, when enrolling in a university programme, the applicant does so, based on their area of interest and the domain where they would like to excel and make a career. If students are allocated a subject for which they lack an innate liking, following the university stipulations, they would not shine or bring out their best. For instance, relatively very few boys apply for nursing courses, and if deserving girls are denied admission in this course owing to university limitations, they and a nation would lack efficient health care workers.

Second, if academic institutes of higher education, are to follow the injunction that equal boys and girls ought to be taken in, then perforce universities might have to admit learners who are upto to the mark or fulfil all criteria. For example, students who are admitted in engineering or medical colleges based on some kind of seat reservation rules found in few parts of India, generally attain low grades. Moreover, they would hence fail to be great engineers or doctors.

To conclude, according to me, universities must not give admission to same number of students of both genders, since the process of admission is best done depending on interest and eligibility of the applicants, in the larger interest of students and a country.
