The given diagrams depicts the spend of British people on food in a week, as well as the trends of food intake. Hamburgers were most eaten by middle and high income groups.
It can be seen that, around 43 pence per week per person was invested in hamburgers by high income, 10 lesser by middle income and least by lower income group. Expenditure on fish and chips was maximum (25 pence) by the middle income, followed by low income(18pence). Spend on pizza was highest by the upper income (20 pence) with the ther two groups spending around half.
The use of pizzas was the lowest (40 gramms), hamburgers double of it and fish highest( 300 grammes) in 1970. Thereafter, usage of fish dropped consistently to 240 in 1990, being the least consumed. Whereas, intake of hamburgers rose sharply to over 550, the most eaten in 1990. Use of pizzas also went up gradually to 280 grammes.
To conclude, the food preferences of British citizens, saw a shift from fish and chips in 1970 to hamburgers and pizzas in 1990, additionally hamburgers were the favoured diet of the high and average income people.
