The Essay Topic: Recycling our waste is a big issue today. A lot of people feel that others are not recycling enough and that the government should make it a legal requirement. In your opinion, should laws be needed to ensure that people recycle their waste?
The Essay: It cannot be gainsaid that recycling is imperative to save our planet as it is a gigantic problem today. Some people assert that people are not doing sufficient recycling and therefore government should enact laws to enhance recycling and make it mandatory.
Firstly, most of the people shows little concern for recycling of wastes even though it is an increasingly vital issue in recent times. Hence, governments should enact laws and make it compulsory to recycle waste. Some developed countries have already started the practice of penalising people for not recycling the waste which has maximised the recycling there.
Secondly, it is human tendency to follow a practice only when it is enforced by government. Therefore, a statute by the government in this regard, would ensure that all citizens are following the measure of reusing the waste.
Nonetheless, laws alone cannot contain the alarming decline of natural resources and increasing global warming. Government can make laws but it depends on the people to follow them. People should not wait for the government to formulate rules. They should also take the responsibility of recycling and only then the efforts to safeguard our planet by recycling will bear fruit.
To conclude, I opine that a government should make it a statutory requirement for people to recycling waste, apart from this, people should also be self-motivated to reuse waste and save our planet.
