The Essay: There are divergent views regarding the effect of new technology on the lives of employees, with few holding the belief that it enriches their life whilst others say it is disadvantageous.
Firstly, new technology enables workers to fulfill their work responsibilities more easily making their life better. They can continue and complete their work even on the go, while commuting or on a tour. For example, while travelling in a metro train to work, we often see executives, talking to clients, reporting to seniors, taking appointments and striking deals.
Secondly, we have instant access to information of everything under the sun, with the click of a button. This makes it simple to perform complex tasks like making presentations, choices, paying bills, booking tickets or even shopping. Besides, it saves time.
On the contrary, with the usage of latest technologies, there is also too much intrusion into the private life of staff. They are often bombarded with calls, e-mails and messages even on a holiday. This destroys their work-life balance and adversely affects their physical and mental health. Hence they do not feel refreshed despite taking a break from their hectic work schedules. Furthermore, their personal relationships are hampered with excessive use of modern gadgets. Rather than talking to children and spouse when back home, employees generally reply to calls or complete office work using their smartphone, tablet or laptop, leading to loneliness and weaker family ties.
To conclude, according to me, it is a fact that with the utilisation of the new technologies, employees’ life gets better but that is at the cost of their health and personal relations. However, the same can be countered by a judicious use of modern technology.
