The Essay:

Every car, bus and truck would be moving sans a driver in times ahead, that would transport people travelling only as passengers. This situation would proffer both merits and demerits.

First, the chances of accidents on roads would be minimised. According to news reports, maximum road accidents occur due to human negligence presently. It has been observed in other industries which are fully automated, the chances of mistakes are almost nil. In the banking sector, for example, which maintains computer operated records, there are rarely any errors.

Second, there would be a rise in productivity of people who drive and travel to work in driverless cars. Millions of workers drive to their workplace, which more often than not, leads to stress and related ailments, causing a dip in output at work. Thus passengers in cars that are automatically driven, would be healthier. Besides, automated buses and trucks would also cause less traffic jams which often arises when human drivers try to over speed or overtake other vehicles.

Nevertheless, people for whom driving provides their bread and butter, would be rendered jobless and forced to seek alternate employment. According to reports, about 5 million drivers would be jobless in America alone, if all vehicles are made driverless. Therefore, such workers would have to be trained for roles in other sectors.

To conclude, according to me, the benefits of cars, buses and trucks running without drivers in future, is greater than the drawbacks. However, all existing drivers would have to seek other means of earn a living.
