The Essay Topic: The tendency of human beings to copy one another is shown in the popularity of fashion clothes and consumer goods. To what extent do you agree ?
Essay A:
It is observed that people are more attracted to and adapt the latest fashions specially clothing and other accessories or goods, owing to their inclination of aping others. I agree with this view to some extent, as people are conscious about fashion and wish to keep themselves aligned with the modern times. Advertising is another factor contributing to this state of affairs.
Firstly, the huge demand for the latest garments and various other products is an indicator of the nature of humans to do and use what others do. For instance, when iPhone was launched a few years ago, the number of users were low. However, today the number of consumers owning the same, has multiplied several times.
Secondly, people are considered outdated and unsuccessful if they do not dress in the manner that others do and keep up with the times. Therefore, just copying what is in vogue, is the need of the day and we see the rise in aping of fashions and other consumer goods by the populace.
Nevertheless, to a certain degree, the aggressive marketing and advertising of clothes, accessories and other products is also responsible for the rising sales of these products. Seeing the celebrities endorse some particular brand of clothes or car, motivates consumers to obtain the same.
To conclude, the growth in consumerism of fashionable garments as well as products used by people, is a reflection of the inclination of man to emulate each other. Nonetheless, promotion by companies also promotes the popularity of fashion related garments and other goods.
Essay B:
It is certainly true that human beings tend to imitate others by donning the latest fashion clothes and other daily use products. Moreover, their choice of clothing is influenced by what celebrities wear. I agree with the given notion, and further this idea of copying other is set to continue.
Firstly, everyone is concerned about their appearance and wish to look their best by putting on the kind of clothes that are in vogue. Consequently, when we see someone in a different but appealing outfit, we desire to try out the new look for us. For instance, it is considered cool to wear torn jeans and so majority of the youth can be seen in them, just by copying one another. Secondly, famous personalities and celebrities, who already have millions of followers, endorse various brands which results in numerous takers of that product. Therefore, the habit of human beings to go along with the flow, gives rise to the popularity of fashion and consumer goods such as cars, shoes or gadgets.
Nonetheless, following fashion is also a great way to validate whether a product is good or bad, as we are not the only ones who are buying that product. We can check the durability, quality and packaging while considering both positive and negative reviews of innumerable people. For example, if everyone is getting the latest iPhone, that itself is a good reason for us to purchase it.
To conclude, I opine that the surge in the fashionable clothes and other consumer goods is due to human’s nature of seeking appreciation and acceptance and the easiest way to achieve this is to do what others do. Furthermore, this trend gives opportunities to people to select the best options amongst an array of products.
Essay C:
It cannot be denied that the propensity of individuals to ape others is in our genes since the beginning and it is apparent in the rising demand of garments as well as consumer goods in vogue. However, I endorse this statement to some extent that imitation is the cause of popularity of fashion clothes and products.
Firstly, it is very true that western clothes are popular all over the world and people follow the same trend that is common in present times. For instance, I live in India where more than half the people wear western attire in their day to day life, though every province of India has its own traditional dress. This is mainly the result of emulating fashion trends, especially amongst young people.
Secondly, trade and business is surging in every nook and corner of the world that has made goods ubiquitous and can be bought anywhere. Added to this, is the present day ease of commerce online. Therefore, people have more options to purchase products and sometimes they copy their role models or celebrities by flaunting products and fashion clothes. For instance, Kashmir woollens may be purchased not only in India but also on the streets of New York.
In conclusion, according to me, the tendency of people to copy others in fashion trends is mirrored in the popularity of clothes and products as well as their availability everywhere in the world.
