The Essay
Purchasing locally made goods is ever advantageous, happens to be the view of few people. I completely disagree with this opinion since it would be detrimental for the world economy, apart from depriving citizens of access to world-class goods.
Firstly, with greater imports of goods from across the world in every country, world trade would grow. Producers in one country would have a vast set of buyers from anywhere on the globe, thus facilitating more profits. Domestic goods sale would maximise, boosting the economy of every country. For instance, billions of dollars of international sale of goods, is witnessed each year on digital commerce platforms such as Amazon.
Secondly, when customers shop international goods, be it in retail outlets or online, they can enjoy the best products in any corner of the world and need not limit their choices to only local products. To exemplify, there are many admirers and owners of the German made BMW cars in India, who vouch for its perfection and joy of riding.
Nevertheless, people who think that it is always a benefit to buy local goods, argue that this would safeguard domestic businesses from the onslaught of mighty foreign brands. Additionally, they claim it would protect the small scale industry and preserve the age old art and crafts of a nation, as in the case of fine pottery or jute handicrafts of our country.
To conclude, I am totally in disagreement with the thought of some that it is always a plus to purchase local products, as this would prevent customers from enjoying the best goods produced across borders, as well as curb world economy.
