The Essay:
Whether permanent acceptance of a bad situation in life, such as an unsatisfactory job and staying the same way is good or striving for an improvement is better, is a moot point. I agree with the latter view and feel that accepting poor conditions is detrimental in more ways than one.
To begin with, acceptance of the status quo will only lead to a path of downfall and decay. People who remain in the same dissatisfying circumstances, normally spend their life without discovering abundance or their true potential. It is only when one stands up to the challenges of life, that good times, progress and success can be achieved.
Moreover, staying in an unsatisfactory position makes one unhappy and can have a spillover effect on near and dear ones. Other than the people themselves, their family members too start to feel gloomy and unhappy. Personal relations may start deteriorating to the extent of family breakdowns or even children taking to unsocial ways.
On the contrary, an unsatisfactory position is an opportunity to leave one’s comfort zone and rise up to tough times. Many daring ones have stood against all odds, with grit and determination to make it big through sheer hard work and persistence. For instance, despite growing up in poverty and selling pens on the streets of Mumbai, the famous comedian Johny Lever of Hindi cinema, made it big and catapulted to fame.
To conclude, I believe one should not accept bad conditions as they are. Following the saying, ‘when life gives you lemons, make a lemonade’, people should make every effort to rise above unfavourable situations.
