Information technology is changing many aspects of our lives and now dominates our home, leisure and work activities. To what extent do the benefits of information technology outweigh the disadvantages

The Essay:
It cannot be denied that several walks of human life such as free time, work and domestic life, are being impacted and transformed by Information technology, that is almost reigning all of these areas. This certainly offers not only merits but also demerits.
Life has become easier and more comfortable with the dominance of information technology services in various facets of life. People can book flight or train tickets, pay bills, order food, shop, listen to music and so on, in the midst of their comfort zone, with the click of a mouse or touch of a smart device. Besides, maintaining and securing data in offices is no doubt far simpler. This was unimaginable a few decades ago.
Furthermore, the dominating aspect of information technology has opened up a whole new world of employment and business opportunities, benefiting people globally. Amazon, Swiggy, ZOMATO and a myriad other companies are gaining and serving customers while employing thousands. People can acquire and sell goods from around the globe thus uniting people, which is mutually beneficial. This is advantageous at the micro and macro level, boosting national economies.
Nevertheless, resorting to information technology excessively has brought some mental illnesses amongst users. A kind of addiction to smart phones, social media and so on, has alienated people and family members from each other emotionally. This distance in families has caused depression and a loss of warmth in society, which was earlier very close knit. Indirectly it is leading to violence in society.
To conclude, I believe that while the rising applications and dominance of information technology in many domains of our life is harmful to an extent, overall it’s advantages are far higher, considering its convenience and contributions to economies.
