The Essay Question: Writing Task 2 (an essay)

In many countries around the world young people decide to leave their parents’ home once they finish school. They start living on their own or sharing a home with friends. Is this a positive or a negative development? Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples.

The Essay Answer:

The trend in several nations across the globe is for juveniles to stop living in their parental home, post passing out from school and begin living either independently or with friends. According to me, this is a negative shift, since it makes the young wanting for unconditional love of a father or mother apart from putting them at certain risks.

Staying all by themselves or with known companions, teaches the youth to manage all their affairs on their own. They learn to deal with the difficulties faced by adults which prepare them for their life ahead. Besides, they get educated on financial matters by experimenting and realise the value of money. This inculcates the habit of saving for the morrow in youth and many of them climb the ladder of success the hard way.

On the contrary, due to putting up away from parents’ home, young school leavers, are more likely to be tempted into wrong and antisocial practices such as gambling, stealing and so on. Studies  on juvenile crimes published in the Times Weekly recently, reveal that majority of the culprits were not living with parents. Moreover, the young school passers are deprived of the emotional support and guidance of parents on a day to day basis which is oft needed in teenage. In the absence of parents at home, they often become mentally disturbed that may lead to depression.

To conclude, while quitting parental house after passing out school is in vogue making students more self reliant, I believe it is more disadvantageous than being advantageous, since it not only exposes them to all harmful aspects of society but also makes them emotionally deprived.
