The Essay Question:
Group or team activities can teach more important skills for life than those activities which are done alone.
Do you agree or disagree ?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. Write at least 250 words.
The Essay:
Whether activities engaged in a group or those done independently, educate people more on life skills, is a moot point. I am of the opinion that collective tasks certainly are superior in imparting life skills.
To begin with, working together with others gives us hands on experience and knowledge of getting along with a variety of people and the supreme art of accommodating. This critical skill cannot be gained by doing things all by ourselves, no matter how efficient we are. Besides, we get a better understanding of people and their attitudes which would aid in future group roles we might have to undertake.
Furthermore, communication skills and trust in mankind is acquired in the course of performing projects in the company of others. This faith in the goodness of people and the art of communicating effectively with team members, is paramount in achieving success in any walk of life. People who accomplish tasks independently loose this vital opportunity of interaction and talking with a cross section of other workers.
Nevertheless, advocates of the view that work done alone teaches greater number of life skills, argue that it is more challenging to complete a task in this manner vis-a-vis in a group, thus teaching more skills for life. Additionally, they may contend that independent undertakings test a person’s grit, capabilities and much more, bringing out the best in them while training them for life.
To conclude, I believe that working in a group imparts greater number of skills for one’s life as opposed to indulging in jobs alone since people learn to interact and communicate effectively with varying personalities apart from building faith in mankind.
