The Essay Topic : Fast food has become a part of our society. What is the impact of fast food on human life?
The Essay:
The impact of fast food and its myriad effects on human life has witnessed a heated debate in recent times. Pizzas, burgers, chips and French fries amongst others, have invaded most homes during the past few years. According to me, this has detrimental effects on the health, environment and the economy of a nation.
Firstly, junk food causes several health problems. They are rich in calories which has the tendency of making anyone obese. Furthermore, regular consumption of fast food leads to diabetes, heart problems and other harmful diseases, causing a dip in the vitality of not only people but also a country. According to a recent survey conducted by USA, consumption of fast food as well as cases of obesity, have risen by almost 18 %, during just the last five years .
Secondly, most of the fast food manufacturing industries use plastic for packaging which has a negative impact on our environment. Hence, with increase in its consumption, litter is also increasing in our surroundings. This plastic waste ends up in polluting soil and clogging drains and once again affecting people in a vicious cycle.
Finally, fast food motivates people to stop the intake of their traditional foods that were designed considering the climatic conditions, human digestion and product availability from local farmers. Therefore, a surge in use of junk food is impacting the nation’s economy since it necessitates imports from foreign countries leading to a loss of foreign currency apart from loss to local farmers.
To conclude, I opine that fast food has become a component of society. However, it is causing several health issues, severely impacting the environment and society in more ways than one.
