Essay Topic: Eating sugar is harmful for the health. Some people opine that it is government’s responsibility to control the consumption of sugar people eat, others believe that it is an individual who has the responsibility to control the sugar amount they consume. The Essay: It is evident that consumption of sugar is detrimental to health. While some people believe governments should be responsible for the sugar intake by people, others think that it is the onus of an individual.
It cannot be gainsaid that government has some role in deciding how much sugar is consumed by the populace. People nowadays consume lots of fast food which are rich in sugar, as well as sugary drinks, probably because of convenience and attractive advertisements. Governments could not only regulate the broadcasting of such commercials but also raise taxes on them, making them less affordable.
Furthermore, it can take appropriate measures to increase awareness amongst the people. This can be done by organizing campaigns or advertising regarding the ill effects of taking in excessive sugar, such as diabetes,obesity and so on. However, having said that governments should control sugar consumption, individuals are liable for their diet and health. Adults have free will and can make their choices as to what they eat, such as sweets, junk food and so forth. In addition, children are developing a tendency of eating sugary snacks, pizzas, chocolates and more. However, their parents can keep a check on what they eat and warn them about the negative effects of having them. For example, I avoid sweets in order to control sugar in my body.
In conclusion, in my opinion, although governments play some role in regulating sugar ingestion by people, individuals must take the ultimate responsibility for not consuming food with high sugar content, even though it maybe delicious and easily accessible.
