Answer: It is evident that technology of this modern time is affecting the populace in multiple ways, including socially. However, whether it makes the users sociable to a larger or lesser extent, has been a moot point.

First, present world citizens interact far greater due to the easy accessibility of smartphones and other gadgets. Hence we find that people are often together in far too many platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp, amongst others. This has maximised the level of social communication. Besides, people are able to reach out to others in distant locations physically as well, through various means of transport facilitated with modern technology, which was a challenging task previously.

Second, people now get in touch with anyone with similar interests via social media and YouTube, making the world smaller. Furthermore, communities meet up regularly for a healthier connectivity. Additionally, successful personalities are connected socially with their followers on various online channels. For example, the famous Hindi film actor Amitabh Bachan, is very social online with a massive fan base.

However, advocates of the view that people are getting less social with modern technology, argue that personal meetings with family, friends, neighbours and so on, has dipped significantly. There are fewer gatherings in a community and society members are often addicted to gadgets. Moreover, rather than going over to meet loved ones, people simply commune over a variety of devices cutting down sociability.

In conclusion, according to me, modern day technology has definitely enhanced people’s sociability, although virtually, with people being engaged in increased interactions around the globe. Nevertheless, while technology consumers spend more time connecting through devices, there is a marked reduction in physical interactions.
