The Essay Topic: Today more and more tourists are visiting places where conditions are difficult, such as the Sahara desert or the Antarctica.
What are the benefits and disadvantages for tourists who visit such places.
The Essay: It is a fact that in the present times there has been a significant increase in the number of people travelling to uninhabitable or hostile places like the Arctic or Everest mountains, to experience something different from the regular or to pursue there passion. I believe that travelling to such difficult places has both advantages and disadvantages for tourists.
Firstly, one of the biggest benefit of undertaking difficult journeys is to improve one’s confidence in one’s abilities. Despite the mental and physical exhaustion caused by this, the exhilaration that one experiences on successful completion and achievement of such trips, is not something that can be described in mere words. Secondly, one wants their name on the pages of history by going to offbeat and uncharted terrains, different from the normal. Besides, they visit such places to discover something new or something hidden from the world. For example, Columbus discovered India in this attempt to explore unknown lands.
However, this can be dangerous as many people can lose their lives during such expeditions. Lots of travellers have died while trekking mountains or rafting apart from sustaining serious injuries, that leaves them immobile for the rest of their lives. Moreover, disadvantage of such journeys is that if travellers go missing, the government has to launch costly operations in search of them.
To conclude, it is observed that these days the number of visitors travelling to tough destinations is on the rise. According to me, however such difficult journeys are extremely thrilling albeit dangerous too. Still few people undertake them to test their limits and to challenge the unknown.
