The Essay: It is becoming more common in present times to have multiple means of earning money rather than just one job throughout life, apart from lifelong education, unlike in the past. According to me, this trend would continue and a larger number of people would take to doing several tasks and study ceaselessly, to source income in future.
First, job security is gradually declining and hence people seek the same by doing more than one job and upgrading skills and knowledge, every now and then.Besides, employers do not hesitate to sack employees not performing, more so in the private sector. To exemplify, the attrition rate today is higher vis-a-vis earlier times, evidenced by the multiplying recruitment and training firms.
Second, the younger generation is more adventurous and experimental in their attitude and believe in doing more than one job, along with pursuing education simultaneously. Furthermore, many people are becoming entrepreneurs, and if required acquire the needed training, obvious by the burgeoning venture capitalists. The number of startups launched in recent years such as, OYO rooms, Flipkart, Zomato and so on, are more than in the past few decades.
On the other hand, there are still few who choose to stick to a single employment opportunity all their life. Such people, may love their job. In addition, government jobs and large established organisations, generally do not sack their staff but accommodate them in suitable positions coupled with periodic training.
To conclude,I believe, engaging in multitude jobs at the same time alongside continuing learning, is certainly now in vogue and will remain so, primarily with the young or adventurous people. Nonetheless, there are still more stable workers who may remain in the same job all their life, owing to their interest in the role or advantages provided.
