The given pie chart illustrates the main cause of worldwide land degradation and the table shows the reasons of land degradation in North America, Europe and Oceania in 1990. Over grazing was the prime reason for land depletion the world over, while maximum weakening of land was in Europe.
It can be seen from the pie chart that globally excessive grazing was the main cause of land degradation (35%), followed by deforestation (30%) and over cultivation (28%), whereas other reasons accounted for 7%.
The table depicts that the highest land degradation(23%) was in Europe, reasons being deforestation (9.8%), over cultivation (7.7 %) and over grazing (5.5 percent). The second largest depletion of natural resources in land was in Oceania (13 %), mainly owing to deforestation (1.7 %) and over grazing (11.3 %). In North America, total land degradation was only 5 percent, due to over cultivation (3.3 % ) and more grazing (1.5 %).
In conclusion, too much grazing by cattle was the leading reason of worldwide land weakening, besides land degradation was the most in Europe vis-a-vis North America and Oceania in 1990.
