Essay Topic: Some people think that women should be given equal chances to work and excel in their career. Others believe, that a women’s role should be limited to taking care of house and children, which opinion do you agree with and why.
The Essay: The role of a women has often been debated. Few opine that women ought to be offered similar opportunities as men in order to shine in their career while others feel they must be confined to be care takers of their home and offspring.
Firstly, it is morally incorrect to stifle the dreams of women just because they are mothers, though traditionally they have been home makers and child rearers. Women are as good as men in most fields today and they also have aspirations since childhood to be an engineer, doctor, pilot and so on. As citizens with equal rights, they should share the same chance to showcase their work and realise their full potential and worth.
Secondly, women can contribute significantly and positively towards the growth of an organisation and a country. Many top positions are being handled effectively by women managers. For example, Mrs. Chanda Kochhar has been heading ICICI bank and it is one of leading private banks in India. Besides, a women’s additional income in a family could raise the standard of living substantially.
Nevertheless, some argue that since time immemorial women have been fulfilling the role of being care takers of home and children and doing very well. Moreover, a man can rarely fill in this role in a family and does not have the innate ability to perform such tasks. In addition, people believe that children need a mother more than a father as women are inherent care givers and understand a child better.
To conclude, according to me, women have proven to be contributors towards a nation, even though conventionally the job of looking after the house and children is undertaken by women efficiently, their place should not be limited to it alone. On the other hand, women should be offered equal chance as men professionally, to flower and display their merit and worth.
