Some people think employers should not care about the way their employees dress, because what matters is the quality of their work. To what extent do you agree or disagree ?

The Essay:

Few contend that employers ought not to give importance to the dress worn by their staff since what actually counts is the standard of work. According to me, this is not true as the clothes put on at the workplace, directly affects the caliber of task.

Firstly, a unique pattern of attire for certain professions leads to a high sense of devotion and dedication amongst the employees. For instance, in occupations like the armed and air forces, a formal uniform plays a very significant role in the output of work. Furthermore, the feeling of oneness created by wearing the same or formal dress, fosters a high team spirit resulting in peak performance. Secondly, when employees have to interact with their customers, a formally dressed professional leaves a positive impression about the organisation leading to high quality work. An executive who goes to a client meeting in casual clothes is less likely to be taken seriously or close a deal, vis-a-vis one who is well groomed .

On the contrary, many creative and information technology organizations like Google, have an informal culture and give weightage only to quality of work and not clothes. They believe that casuals encourage men and women to work with a stress free mind and achieve their full potential thus yielding better results.

To conclude, I opine that a formal dress at the workplace results in sterling work by creating dedication, team bonding and positive image of an organization and hence employers should pay attention to the dress worn by their employees. Nevertheless, there are some sectors where informal dress is more conducive to great work.
