The Essay: Few feel that extra-curricular activities are imperative for the holistic growth of students and therefore schools ought to add all these activities like music, drama and creative writing in their syllabus. This is certainly true and I believe that educational institutes should include such programs along with academic subjects like math and science.

Firstly, students have varied talents such as painting, singing, dancing or others, and pursing them in school may help them to make it their career later in life. Besides, it will provide a good outlet from the cumbersome school assignments, projects, tests and schedule. For example, my elder brother who wanted to take up painting as his career succeeded because he started painting at an early age during school time and has earned wide acclaim.

Secondly, pupils can sharpen their intelligence quotient while they participate in such activities like creative writing as well as drama which are good for entertainment and collaboration with peer groups thus increasing interpersonal skills. Moreover, music inculcates a new spirit into their mind and it has been proven scientifically that music is conducive not only to psychological but also physiological growth.

Nevertheless, it can be observed that sometimes students lag behind in academics when they are engrossed more in other creative pursuits like singing, theater and so on, in school time. It may have a negative impact on their basic studies and they might not be able to pass.

In conclusion, according to me, schools should include extra-curricular activities in their syllabi as these are necessary for all round progress of the young school goers. Nonetheless, academic institutes must ensure that students do not neglect regular studies.
