Essay Topic: Some people feel that school and college education should be free for students and funded by governments across all nations, while others disagree. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

The Essay: There are few who opine that for pupils all over the world, primary to higher education, should be free of cost and funded by governments. Yet others disagree with this view and believe that education should be paid for by students.

To begin with, education if made free to students, will enable the rich and poor alike to get the best teachings. Poor children can avail educational facilities which will boost literacy and enable them to flower into educated responsible citizens who can contribute to society. For example, in few countries where education until tenth grade is free, there are no illiterate children.

Furthermore, education with no charges will ensure the best of students to be accommodated in a class promoting healthy competition. With bright pupils from across the world in the top notch institutes like Harvard or Oxford Universitity, teachers would also be motivated and propelled to deliver their best, fostering growth of innovation and nurturing talent in the larger interests of the world.

On the other hand, student education paid by governments will increase its burden. Already, the load on governments of developing and maintaining infrastructure is huge. In addition, students may not value free education or take it seriously. For instance, when I enrolled for a free course, I soon left it midway but somehow completed another course for which I deposited fees.

To conclude, according to me, free education at all levels, for students that is paid for by governments, does step up its liability, nevertheless, it is a great way to promote literacy across various countries as well as generate great ideas by brilliant students that would benefit humanity at large.
