Essay Topic: Nowadays the importance of teachers is diminishing due to increased availability of alternative sources to students. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the statement?
The Essay: It is observed that in this age, online education is on the rise and as a result the significance of teachers is dropping. According to me, this is true due to the greater flexibility and convenience the internet offers to learners vis-a-vis the traditional classes and teachers.
First, all knowledge is available over the world wide web and students who prefer solitude can educate themselves without a formal teacher in a classroom. While some learners wish to learn in a group, there are others who can focus and grasp better when studying alone. For example, I enjoy studying all by myself instead of attending a conventional classroom with a teacher. Second, the comfort of study at our own pace, place and time is not feasible under a traditional teacher. Moreover, majority of the people possess a computer, smart phone or tablet and can access study material online anytime. Besides, the tedious process of taking notes of a teacher’s lectures, is not needed in online study as it can be downloaded.
On the contrary, many new online teachers are gaining popularity with their lectures being viewed on YouTube by a larger spectrum of knowledge seekers across the globe. At the same time, the vast experinece and wisdom of some very devoted and dedicated conventional teachers is now available to a plethora of learners by way of this new age teaching methodology online.
In conclusion, I believe that the rapid strides taken by technology in the field of online education offering other newer sources, has led to a dip in the appeal of teachers with a corresponding rise in demand for few online educators.
