Many age old industries are vanishing slowly and some people think that it is not worth reviving them while others say they must be kept alive.

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

The Essay:

It is true that several industries of the bygone era are gradually dying out. Whether to let them perish or strive to support them, is a moot point.

People who stand by the argument that the traditional and old industries such as knitting, sculpturing and so on, need not be aided to help them  survive in changing times, contend that modern and better industries with technology  are emerging. Besides, they argue that instead of spending resources on upliftment of the vanishing ancient arts, crafts or sectors, focus must be on the latest domains, for instance mobile gaming or artificial jewellery that provide work to many more people.

On the other hand, the ancient arts and other unique industries of the past are the identity of a country. The skilled carved furniture, pashmina shawls, products of jute known as the golden fibre and exquisite embroidery work on clothes amongst others in India, are much sought after, not only locally but also globally. Tourists to India and natives, cherish and flock to buy them at source, as a souvenir.

Additionally, thousands of citizens earn bread and butter from working in the centuries old sectors like handloom textiles, bangle making, cut glass work and many others. Such workers are not skilled in any other area and would be rendered jobless if these industries are not given a fillip. Generations of a family are often engaged in such work and would be hit hard economically, if they cannot continue to propagate the distinctive knowledge and skill they possess.

To conclude, according to me, it is critical that nations try to keep the fading industries of the past alive, despite emergence of modern ones, since they are the pride of a country as well as a source of employment for thousands.
