The Essay:
It is observed that western form of attire like jeans and suits is worn by people in several nations nowadays. I believe this is due to the fact that such dressing has become an accepted global style and it is not only positive but also negative.
To begin with, industrialisation and globalisation has led to a standardised manner of dressing. In multinational companies, such as Maruti, Google, Microsoft and others, people work from across nationalities. Thus people choose to wear western clothes, since many of these companies began in the west and the global work force wish to be at par with others. Additionally, western clothes are considered the norm, modern and are comfortable. People wish to groom themselves accordingly, which provides comfort and is a trend. Hence, traditional clothes are giving way to western wear.
However, the rich cultural diversity in dresses is fading away, due to the extensive adaptation of western way of dressing. To exemplify, many Indians wear pants or jeans instead of the native lungi, kurta or saris. Moreover, local businesses and means of existence have been greatly impacted. For instance, cotton cultivation has reduced in India since people choose western clothes that is largely synthetic.
However, the recent choice of western dresses has united people and thinned out the differences amongst them. People feel more easily connected with others who are similarly clothed.
To conclude, according to me, putting on western clothes by people across many countries presently, is primarily owing to the fact that it has become more accepted worldwide apart from the ease it gives. Besides, this development has a two-pronged effect, both plus and minus.
