Essay Topic: Fatherhood ought to be emphasised as much as motherhood. The idea that women are solely responsible for deciding whether or not to have babies leads to the idea that they are also responsible for bringing up the children. To what extent do you agree or disgaree.
The Essay:It is generally believed that women alone are decision makers of having children and therefore ought to bring up children too, however, some opine that fatherhood must not be ignored. According to me, the role of father in the upbringing of little ones needs to be equally stressed.
Firstly, the choice of giving birth to a baby is certainly not the notion of a women alone. This needs to be finalised and often done by a women as well as her husband. Of course, even if the mother alone was the decision maker of bringing a child into the world, the father needs to play his part in taking care of the offspring rather than turning a blind eye towards his role in raising the child. For instance, one of my friend, conceived and delivered a baby without the tacit approval of her husband and faced a lot of challenges in bringing up the baby all by herself, as he refused to share the burden.
Secondly, a baby boy of girl requires the support of both the father and mother. When a child is thus nurtured by parents, he or she grows up into well rounded personalities. For example, a boy might want his father’s explicit guidance in few matters while a girl his care for emotional security. We see that in cases where the father spends negligible time with his children, they evolve into emotionally insecure beings.
In conclusion, I believe, while it could be a reality that the idea of giving birth to a baby is usually take by a women albeit not an ideal situation, nevertheless, the baby must be cared for by both parents and fatherhood must be equally stressed in order to creat a responsible and mature young generation.
