The Essay:
Whether interaction with other nations on the business and cultural fronts results in positive developments or losing of national identity, is a moot point, with people supporting both of these opposing views.
Proponents of the belief that national identity is lost, contend that people more often than not in such cases, adapt the practices of foreign lands. Many native executives who have business deals with their counterparts in other nations, generally speak a foreign language and avoid wearing their native dress, in order to be more acceptable and successful. However, one’s nationality is deeply rooted in human psyche and cannot be erased merely by international associations.
Nevertheless, cross-cultural and business dealings globally, have since ancient times brought prosperity coupled with more opportunities to people and the nations concerned. From the traders who came to buy fine Indian silks in times of yore, to the multinationals outsourcing software jobs to Indian nationals and online m-commerce behemoths, such as Amazon selling in India more recently, have all largely benefited economically.
Furthermore, the world has transformed into a global harmonious village with nations interacting in all spheres, be it business or culture. The numerous culture festivals, such as the World Cultural Festival in Delhi in 2016, go a long way in peacefully bringing nations together. Artists and artisans share their talents and skills, leading to heightened appreciation and acceptance of diversity in the world.
To conclude, in my opinion, notwithstanding the fact that there appears be a loss of national identity with business and cultural links with other countries, in essence it is not so. On the contrary, this brings progressive developments economically, alongside unity amongst world citizens.
