The Essay Topic: Some people use the Internet to search for solutions to their medical problems. Is it a positive or negative development? Give your own opinion and examples from your experience.
The Essay: In today’s era of digitalization, the internet plays a vital role in every aspect of life, therefore, it is no wonder that people search online to get solutions for their illnesses. Nonetheless, not everyone is convinced that accessing such information online is safe and helpful. However, in my view, using authentic online information for medical disorders by the general public, is a favourable development, as it improves the quality of medical care in our society.
Firstly, due to a plethora of data online, a society is well aware of the most common medical disorders, apart from their cure and preventive measures. Consequently, assuming people get reliable online medical information, reasonable and prudent individuals could decide whether they should resort to self-treatment or seek expert guidance. Secondly, if patients can manage their minor medical ailments on their own, it would certainly reduce the workload at hospitals, freeing more doctors for patients in the real world.
On the other hand, even though there are a multitude of digital platforms that proffer medical treatment methodology, yet such content is often not written by professional medical practitioners. Hence, there is a high possibility of spreading wrong medical information throughout the world. Moreover, if a patient receives incorrect information about a medical condition and the procedure to heal or reverse it and follows the same, for instance, curing skin infections at home, it might lead to a serious medical emergency.
To conclude, I opine that online search for information on medical disorders, is a positive advancement, as long as the populace have access to genuine and trustworthy healthcare information, since as it is said, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
