Essay Topic: A growing number of people feel that animals should not be exploited by people and that they should have the same rights as humans, while others argue that humans must employ animals to satisfy their various needs, including uses for food and research. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
A: It cannot be gainsaid that animals contribute in the life of humans in a very significant manner. However, there is often a dichotomy amongst people whether animals should be exploited for human needs or should enjoy the same rights as humans.
Firstly, animals have a similar biological complexity and consciousness like humans, therefore it would not be fair for humankind to exploit them. For example, in some cases it has been reported that some cows had cried before they were slaughtered in the slaughterhouse. Secondly, it is against the law of nature to use animals for selfish ends, just because man exists at the top of the food chain. As man is endowed with intelligence and discrimination, it is his moral duty to protect animals and ensure their safety.
Nonetheless, it is an undeniable fact that mankind needs the assistance of other living creatures in various kind of ways. Primarily, humans need some animals to provide milk and assist in producing crops. In many countries, cows and buffalos are used by farmers to cultivate their farming areas , additionally, in the meat industry, chicken and cows are used to fulfil the demand of food supplies. Moreover, different types of medicines are tested in mice and monkeys for the sake for testing new life saving drugs for humanity.
To conclude, I opine that animals ought to be provided similar rights as mankind and should not be misused since they also have awareness and feel the same pain as humans. Therefore, they should be treated well since they give many benefits in terms of food and objects for medical research.
